12 November 2016 - not my president

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

Donald Trump called the election corrupt and threatened to disavow its result if he lost. Now that he has won, demonstrators are protesting “not my president”. Both sides attack democracy as I have not seen before in America, where democracy is so trusted that people don’t even want to remove its warts. In the coming reign of a would-be strongman, the card game metaphor for the protests is “playing into his hand,” not what you want when the other side has trump.
