Another theory holds that the continual European warfare paved the way for the
Renaissance, and then drove steady technological progress afterward. Other
prolonged eras of war ended when somebody won. The Warring States period of
Chinese history ended with the unification of China, for example, but the
invigorating European wars continued into the twentieth century.
China stagnated after its unification. What about the European Community?
