< yesterday -- tomorrow >

The Renaissance began in Italy with a revival of interest in Greek and Roman times and attempts to apply classical thinking to the contemporary world. The great leap forward began with a long look back.

The irony is that the look back began the slow undermining of Christianity, allowed science to arise, and in the end obliterated the medieval value system. By conservatively looking to the past, they destroyed their present.

It’s only funny in retrospect.
