The Renaissance is the most important positive event in history. But theories about it hold that it sprang from bad causes, or if not, that it was backward-looking and destabilizing.

When the economy is bad, the newspapers wail “Recession!” When it is good, they wail “Danger of economic downturn!” It’s the same way of thinking.

Nevertheless, it’s true.
