Scientists have no monopoly on overprecise language. If you’ve ever seen an antique clock with a chamfered arched verre eglomise door and a foliate incised stepped arched pediment, you know exactly what I mean.

If the Oxford English Dictionary doesn’t start deleting unneeded words, the problem is only going to get worse.
