When in the course of cinematic events it becomes fashionable for one movie to dissolve the financial bands which have connected people to their jobs, and to lead them to assume among the viewers in line the separate and equal station to which the Rules of Theater and of Theater’s Fad entitles them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should give the rest of us some inkling of what drove ’em so all-fired gonzo. It’s a matter of self-preservation, y’know.
