Honesty compels me to admit that, as a person other than Anna Russell,
I am not qualified to understand the true nature of opera.
I can’t even interpret the words when they’re in English.
But the human species as a whole isn’t self-aware enough to be compelled
by honesty. When humans meet aliens, we will believe that we can
interpret their motives.
That’s exactly what happened in Seattle when the WTO protesters met the
other aliens.
