17 January 2002 - freedom is slavery

Your car is your freedom to travel. But cars are dangerous, so drivers must be licensed, so identification must be issued, so Big Brother gains his beachhead. Orwell had it right: Freedom is slavery. If only slavery were freedom!

As usual, I have the solution: Make cars safe. Computer control is not yet feasible, so we must wrap cars in foam rubber, say, five meters thick all around. The fun collisions will finally take the stress out of traffic jams.
