In the nineteenth century, much of New Orleans was a swamp. It will never return to that, but with troops on duty, it does now constitute federally protected wetlands, and reports say there’s wild life in the area. Yet, sadly, Bush has no interest in environmental preservation.

New Orleans is a major port. That is only one of the reasons that it won’t be abandoned for long.
