20 January 2007 - antisatellite

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

The exciting thing about antisatellite weapons is that they work against all satellites. After a big space fight, there could be so much debris up there that pretty soon all the satellites would be broken, and everybody could stop paying their satellite radio bills. Militarily, this favors the side that stays home and doesn’t need GPS to know where it is, thus discouraging invasions. At last a war to end wars!

clue:

In reference to the recent Chinese test of an antisatellite weapon. Earlier tests were by the Soviet Union in the 1960’s and the U.S. in the 1980’s, so I guess we were due.
