Gonzales Hearing Summarized

Senate Judiciary Committee: Where does the buck stop?
Alberto “Stonewall” Gonzales: Mistakes were made in handling details, but overall the decision to fire these U.S. Attorneys was sound. I made it and I stand firmly behind it.
Committee: What were the reasons for this decision?
Gonzales: I’m sorry, it was so long ago. I can’t recall.
Committee: Where did the idea originate? Did you perhaps talk with others about it?
Gonzales: You know, I’ve had so many conversations. I don’t remember.
Committee: I’m sure the rest of the Bush administration will be pleased that you are taking this hit and preventing the damage from spreading.
Gonzales: Thank you. That is to say, I don’t recall ever hearing such a preposterous suggestion.
