16 October 2007 - ACLU

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

American Civil Liberties Union—let’s deconstruct that name. “American” means unable to spell “Amerigo” or other foreign words. “Civil” means polite. “Liberties” are freedoms which are taken rather than given, and thus are not polite. And “union” used to mean a desperate scramble to survive, but today is that bipolar superpower (currently in the depressive phase) which attempts to balance management by being at least as hardnosed. Thus “American Civil Liberties Union” means all mixed up.

clue:

The ACLU does a lot of things I agree with, but “hardnosed” is the right word.

take oh take this clue away
