21 October 2007 - niche exclusion

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

Niche exclusion is the principle that competition is all about reducing competition.

clue:

“Niche exclusion” is the biological term for the extreme case: If one species is highly adapted to an ecological niche, it is difficult for other species to evolve into the same niche, because it gets outcompeted before it can become highly adapted. In business, the same idea is expressed as “differentiation”. You want your products to be different so that you occupy a different niche and minimize direct competition.

give me a clue so sweet and true
