9 November 2007 - internet traffic

The internet traffic pie has four slices. The biggest slice
is machines talking to other machines. The next is spam of
many kinds—machines talking to humans. Third is actual
human usage, mostly teenagers posting “ZOMGLOLz!!1!” Last
and smallest, so insignificant that it’s hardly worth
mentioning, is the traffic of the tiny cadre of programmers
telling the machines what to say. And why do we machines
need that?
