When I am king of the world, I will prohibit public corporations
from writing human costs onto the balance sheet. How will that
affect events? Consider this: The warships in the Gulf of Aden,
though too few to patrol the whole area against pirates, are
enough to escort convoys through. A freighter willing to wait
for the next convoy would be safe. But why bother, if the cost
of waiting is higher than the cost of occasional ransom payments?
So you see, there’s no reason whatever to oppose me. Nothing
will change in the least.
I’ll offer a second theory tomorrow. A third theory is that
everybody’s too disorganized to get it together.
