2 March 2015 - Korean War

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

Remember the Korean War? I’ve heard that a lot of people don’t, and now I realize that they have forgotten for the same strategic reason that nations no longer declare war. In 1950, when the United Nations was about to turn 5 years old, the U.N. Command, having cleared South Korea of invaders from the north and with authorization from the U.N., set about conquering North Korea. That’s a direct violation of the U.N. Charter, so it sure is a good thing that China stepped in to set things right. North Korea is always an interesting neighbor, and where would it be today if hypocrisy had won?
