Autonomous weapons are dangerous. We should ban them. The movement to ban the most widely-used autonomous weapons, land mines, is well underway. Next we should go after other classic autonomous weapons, from naval mines to pitfall traps—they kill indiscriminately. Future weapons that have smarts can be left for last, because they are much safer.
