6 September 2018 - HPLD 1

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

There is no Singularity, and that is because there is what Stanislaw Lem called the Highest Possible Level of Development, only in Polish. In the Lem story, an HPLD society has reshaped its star into a cube (I would have chosen a stellated rhombic dodecahedron, it’s funnier) and spends its days lounging around, doing nothing much. Why play the reality game when we have already maxed our stats? Now we begin to understand the importance of populists and right-wing conspiracy theorists. These people are against science and progress, and they are our only hope to save computer gaming!
