When you grow bacteria in a test tube, the bacteria can predict events to a degree. They know, from chemical signals, that their numbers are growing exponentially, and they foresee a singularity, a sudden shift to another mode of existence. And bam, it happens! The test tube bursts from their mass and they all die! We humans, watching our technological skills progress exponentially, make a similar prediction. The Earth will explode with our brilliance and we’ll move on to something that is much better!
